5 reasons that sets Kurumba Village Resort apart from the rest

Vanakkam!  Having heard a lot about Kurumba Village Resort for all these years, it was time for us to get a first-hand experience. The place is named after the Kurumbas, a forgotten tribe who co-existed happily with nature in the Nilgiris.

Are you curious to know our top 5 reasons that sets Kurumba Village Resort apart from the rest?

1: STAY IN THE LAP OF THE NATURE

If you are looking for a refreshing break, surrounded by huge mountains and dense forest, then Kurumba village is built to bring nature closer to you. Thanks to the location, Kurumba village remains completely cut-off from the outer world once you’re off the highway. At the same time it’s easily accessible from the main road less than a kilometre away.  All we did during our 3-day-stay was breathe in the fresh mountain air, bask in the glorious sun, swim in the pool, watch the Indian giant squirrels and waited to get a glimpse of wild animals. What more you ask? There is a small waterfall and stream that runs through the resort. The green cover inside the resort, coupled with the pleasant climate makes for a great walk inside the property that spreads across 10 acres.

2: ROOMS WITH MOUNTAIN & STREAM VIEWS

The sun’s first rays filters through the huge glass window in our room. Begin the day by grabbing a steaming mug of coffee/tea and step out to the balcony. This was our favourite place in the cottage. Treat your eyes to the morning mist and the forest slopes of Nilgiris. All the rooms are designed keeping every need in mind with a view of the huge mountains. A few cottages at the end of the resort face the stream.

The 3 categories of tribal-style cottages and suites with tribal art and artifacts on the walls gives a natural earthy aura. Stay here to get disconnected from the city’s hustle & bustle.

3: ELABORATE BUFFET WITH HIGH TEA

Bevina, is the open-sided restaurant overlooking the wilderness which serves three buffet meals a day. It is surrounded by views that you could never get bored of. Listen to the birds, look out for animals in the forest slopes, greet the Indian giant squirrels, say hi to the monkeys as they watch you from a distance, all of this and more while you eat, hot relishing food.

Kurumba Village Resort

This multi cuisine restaurant serves a range of dishes, from international selections to south Indian specialities. Try the authentic Tamil Nadu cuisine, they deserve a special mention because of the rich taste which is unique in its own way.

Every evening at Chai Kada treat yourself to a cup of refreshing chai and hot pakodas.

The Staff, especially the restaurant manager were really keen to show us wild animals and were constantly looking out. We spotted 2 Bisons during lunch on the first day. Just a week ago 5 elephants along with a calf had visited the stream that runs along the border of Kurumba village resort to drink water. This is right next to the swimming pool. They showed us videos captured on their phone while we silently prayed they come back again during our stay.

4: WISHINEERING

To give guests a memorable experience to cherish for life, The resort has come up with a service to fulfill guests’ wishes. This enables guests to choose or make personalised requests which will be fulfilled at an additional cost.

Some of the wishes that can come true at Kurumba are Tree Top, cave, poolside or barbeque dining, a special surprise for someone special, a romantic candlelight bath, cycling through tea plantation,  tea tasting followed by a 7-course tea-themed gourmet meal.

Apart from wishineering, outdoor rope activities, spice plantation tour, magic show, folk dance are some of the free activities in the resort every day.

5. STAFF

The tranquility, the hospitality and the staff makes this a flawless trip for you & your family. The staff here are extremely polite, well groomed & helpful. There was never a no for any request and they are more than happy to chat with you. I received a call 2 days before the trip, explaining the activities, things to carry and network availability. A day before the check-in, the staff called again to help me with navigation and check on taxi pick up. After the trip I got a call again for feedback.

The manager explained to us about how they are striving to leave a light carbon footprint on the planet by minimizing the use of plastic, growing fruits & vegetables inside the resort, using glass bottles and jute bags, having a good waste management practice and purchasing everything locally.

Vidya (Vidoutboundaries) and I getting chatty as always.

Good to know:

  • Distance to Kurumba from Bangalore – 340 kms, Chennai – 500 kms, Kochi – 240 kms.
  • Even though it’s less than a kilometre from the highway, direction to the resort might get a little tricky as there are no signages or boards.
  • It is near to impossible to catch mobile network anywhere inside the premises unless you have BSNL. Wifi is available but might not be fast always.
  • Elderly guests might have to use the buggy as there are many steps inside the resort and steep pathways.
  • Sorry to say that there is no bar.
